Franklin Nifong

Fiddle

Although the fiddle goes back five generations in his family, Frank Nifong’s first experience playing music was on guitar - until his high school sweetheart (now his wife) Lori convinced him to master the fiddle in honor of his beloved “Paw Paw” (fiddler Bill Saylor). Frank learned from Glen Alexander, and was soon invited to join the Carolina Travelers alongside his cousin John Shutt. Frank kept the band going after John's death in 2007 until finally dissolving it in 2013.

After a decade dedicated to parenting, baseball, church music, and open jams, Franklin was excited to return to the stage as the newest member of The Grassifieds in 2023. He replaces Dr. Amanda Hinds, who left the band to devote herself to her growing family.
